A private ambulance service, a hospital, and a fire-based EMS system do not share a benefits booklet. The overtime can look similar. The life insurance usually does not.
What a new service does not bring with you
- An agency group policy that ends when you take a job with a different service
- A city plan you only have if you are actually on that city’s payroll
- 24-hour shifts and forced overtime the rent is already built around
- A tour schedule that leaves one adult home with the kids for a full day
If you are about to change services for a better schedule, put the old policy’s end date next to the new-hire paperwork. The days in between are a real gap.
Questions between tours
Orientation included a small life policy. Does that settle it?
I work per diem at two services. Who is covering me?
Paramedic, EMT, and dispatch duties are different. Does that matter here?
General information, not insurance advice. Products, availability and pricing vary by insurer and state.
