The
hitch.

  • Weeks on, weeks off.
  • Remote sites.
  • Pay that swings.
  • A family on a monthly budget.

The
reason.

  • The house.
  • Your partner.
  • Your kids.
  • The life you have built.

Day rates, rotations, and service-company assignments stop and start. Indexed universal life is something oil field workers ask about when they want coverage that is not tied to the current hitch. A carrier may or may not offer it for the duties you describe.

Indexed universal life (IUL) is permanent life insurance. Interest credited to the cash value can be linked to a market index, with caps, floors, and charges set by the carrier. It is not an investment. A licensed agent explains cash value, costs, and limits. Underwriting varies by job and by carrier. A hazardous job is not a promise of coverage.

What the rotation leaves at home

  • A staffing or service-company policy that ends between hitches
  • Housing near the yard plus a house back home
  • Weeks when you are on site and someone else runs the bills
  • Duties, travel, and locations that applications ask about one by one

Oil field questions

I am 1099. Is there usually a group life policy?
Often there is not, or it belongs to the staffing firm for that assignment only. Do not assume the company man on location has the same benefits you do.
Does offshore or remote site work get one answer for every carrier?
No. Some carriers ask extra questions about location and travel. Others decline certain duties. The checkup is how an agent learns which description fits your week.
Should the amount match my best hitch?
Start from the bills that remain in a slow month, not from the biggest check. An agent can compare that with any coverage you already have.

General information, not insurance advice. Products, availability and pricing vary by insurer and state.

The hitch ends. The bills at home do not.
